Agility Platform now integrated with Amazon RDS

CSC Agility Platform AWS integration

The CSC Agility Platform team released an update to the Agility Platform’s integration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), specifically for Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS).

The Agility Platform has supported using Amazon Web Services to provision and deploy instances for several years. Due to the popularity of AWS, we are working toward providing a deeper integration with their offerings. As Amazon has expanded it’s offering to include more features and functionality, CSC has followed along with support for many of those features based on customer demand. We recently announced support for Amazon Route 53.

Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) is a web service that makes it easier to set up, operate and scale a relational database in the cloud. Agility now supports adding Amazon RDS to a blueprint (ie: Service Offering such as CRM, Corporate Website, Payroll, etc,), which will allow customers to provision databases on demand in a seamless and cost-effective manner.

The old-world way would be to have one or more database server (instances) running in the cloud. The database server would have one or more databases configured and would be actively running in the cloud regardless of use. This implementation architecture tends to require CPU, Disk and other resources that are waiting to be used. In many cases, they sit idle. With the Amazon RDS support in Agility, customers are now able to scale and provision based on actual usage.

As you can imagine, there is a long list of ways Amazon RDS can be used in a Blueprint in the Agility Platform. From a high-level perspective, here is a subset of features supported with the integration to Amazon RDS.

  • Provisioning and release of database instances.
  • Easy to use settings to leverage a High Availability (HA) architecture.
  • Ability to reconfigure database instances.
  • Ability to provide design and runtime dependencies between workloads.
  • Ability to provide design-time settings within the Blueprint.
  • Apply Policies around Deployment, Lifecycle, Workflow and even Firewall.

Please refer to the release notes for more details on features and functionality.

Customers who have the Agility Platform installed within their own data center(s) can upgrade to the newest version of Agility and/or updated adapters. Please refer to the documentation to review which versions of the Agility Platform the Adapters have been certified against; an upgrade of Agility may be required.

For customers using CSC managed cloud offerings, such as BizCloud or CSC Hybrid Cloud, discuss this update with your account representative. Those CSC Services follow a separate schedule for updating the platform and the unique services they provide.
